Midasco was founded by Joe Dunn and Regina McManus as Mid-Atlantic Steel Contractors in 1982 to provide installation of reinforcing steel. Under the direction of long time President, Regina McManus, the Company received minority business enterprise (MBE) status as a woman owned business. As the Company and staff grew and the ability to manage projects improved the Company expanded its scope of services in 1989 to include the furnishing and installation of highway signing. Around this time the company name changed to Midasco, Inc to reflect the expanded range of services. With several years of successfully completing signing projects, Midasco again expanded in 1994 to include roadway lighting services and again in 1995 to include traffic signals. In 1998, to build on its base in the highway construction industry and to capitalize on an emerging transportation market, Midasco started performing intelligent transportation systems (ITS) work.
Through the 1990s and early 2000s, Midasco worked on many of Maryland and Virginia's signature roadway and bridge projects including Springfield Interchange, Woodrow Wilson Bridge and Interchanges, I-64 widening, Route 288 PPTA, I-695 widening, and Route 29 corridor improvements. In addition, Midasco worked extensively as a prime contractor performing construction and maintenance contracts and on signing, lighting, traffic signal and ITS contracts seamlessly and in any combination to install, integrate and maintain systems that are on the cutting edge of transportation technology.
In January of 2006 the company was recapitalized to allow the original owners to exit. The continuing company was incorporated as Midasco LLC, a Delaware corporation and operates without its original MBE designation. The recapitalization was accomplished with the assistance of Main Street Resources and Starboard Capital Partners. With this transition, Midasco stopped pursuing reinforcing steel installation and focused on signing, lighting, traffic signals and ITS construction and maintenance which now account for one hundred percent of revenues and are the strategic future of the company.
Most recently, Midasco has been focused on the many mega-projects that are underway or in development in Maryland and Virginia. These projects include the Intercounty Connector, Section 100 of the I-95 Express Toll Lanes, I-495 HOT Lanes, I-95/I-395 HOT Lanes, Telegraph Road Interchange and many others.
